Turning heads: The Fashion Journey of Athenian-Born Designer Niki Nikolaidou

Athenian-born-and-raised fashion designer/stylist Niki Nikolaidou, studied marketing and advertising, worked in the subject for years, and floated onto the fashion scene in 2011 by designing jewelry, bags, and then clothing. Experimenting on arts, painting, theater and modern ballet, it was when she began designing clothes that she realized this was the talent she was born with.

Niki’s talent for creating an ode to baroque and renaissance eras, driven by her spirit of revolution and romanticism, is on full display on her creations. Whether crafting a wedding gown for her retro classic Bridal collection or a futuristic design for her vision of the Victoria Art Concept focusing on Avant Garde results. For Niki, every fashion design is a depiction of power and an opportunity for change. “Our animal instincts to seduce, are the motive for a powerful appearance. I believe in the power of change and the power of fashion in change. When you change your image, you confuse them.” she says.

Niki knows how to use fashion to get attention. She learned that during an electro dance night out at the age of 15. On her way to the club, where she confidently sported her brand new futuristic silver latex trousers, a boy on the street called her “sanitas sanitas,” akin to a silver foil. Unfazed by the teasing taunt, Niki strode towards her fashion night, knowing that all eyes were on her, and her appearance would be unforgettable. Mission accomplished.

“Our animal instincts to seduce, are the motive for a powerful appearance. I believe in the power of change and the power of fashion in change. When you change your image, you confuse them.”

At home, several old Italian patternmaking books sat on the shelves, filled with her mother’s notes across many pages. This is where the seed of fashion design took root in her heart. Not speaking Italian, Niki began teaching herself fashion design from other books and sources. She pursued marketing studies and later enrolled in a fashion school where she was taught by the renowned fashion designer, Rigas.

Posh Provocative: If you were to create your own superhero persona, what will your superpower be, and what will you name yourself?

Niki: Definitely my name will be Victoria, both as my artistic name and my real name. The meaning of this name is ‘Victory.’ A dynamic woman whose purpose is to help fulfill the dreams of every ‘weak’ woman, whether in terms of physical strength or mental strength. Her goal is to achieve everything she desires with a touch of magic. With just one magical accessory, she can transform a woman’s world.

Posh Provocative: If you could have a conversation with any historical fashion figure, who would it be, and what would you ask?

Niki: I don’t know which one to choose. I would like to answer with two names please. Coco Chanel and Marilyn Monroe. What can I say about the priestess of fashion, Coco Chanel, who was about to write her own story in the classic style, and the ultimate female, Marilyn Monroe, who embodied the absolute essence of elegance and femininity? The beloved “little black dress” and the addictive perfume “Chanel N°5” that Marilyn Monroe adored and made it fashionable. I would ask both of these iconic personalities the following question… What does a woman need to wear to turn all the eyes of women and men on them?

Posh Provocative: What’s overrated in fashion?

Niki: Nothing is overrated in fashion. On the contrary, fashion’s essence is itself an exaggeration! And it should be, as fashion symbolizes continuous change and evolution. Scientists have characterized fashion as a social phenomenon and an artistic expression, whether by the creator or by the buyer. Feel free in your clothes!

Posh Provocative: How many cars would you own if you had 3 billion dollars?

Niki: I’d say three. A jeep for adventures, a sports car for my need for speed, and a small two-seater car for my trips to the islands.

Posh Provocative: Name the first fast car that comes to your mind.

Niki: Porsche Carrera GT Black.

“So my spaceship already has a name: ‘Cyber VICTORIA,’ and the captain is my superhero, Victoria! With my space crew, we would research for new clothing materials and sounds for music in space. And hold your breath, my spaceship would be a Glass Pyramid.”

A Fashion Invader

Posh Provocative: Imagine you were the captain of a spaceship exploring the galaxy. What would your spaceship be called, what would it look like, and what would your mission be?

Niki: While designing my clothes, I get inspired from futurism. So my spaceship already has a name: ‘Cyber VICTORIA,’ and the captain is my superhero, Victoria! With my space crew, we would research for new clothing materials and sounds for music in space. And hold your breath, my spaceship would be a Glass Pyramid.

Posh Provocative: Describe your spacesuit

Niki: A futuristic design. Black full body corset with silver details and silver 3d tubes that will rotate around the main corset as a source of oxygen to the body.

Posh Provocative: Which iconic fashion figures would comprise your command crew?

Niki: Oscar de la Renta, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Mugler and Balmain.

Posh Provocative: You found a planet with life and decide to land and greet the habitants. What fragrances would you bring them aliens?

Niki: Madagascar vanilla, the exotic coconut, and sandalwood along with their seeds to cultivate their own. I’ll keep the eastern cinnamon for me though and let them wonder what that spicy smell was. Then I’ll move on with my journey.

Posh Provocative: If you had the opportunity to time travel to any era in history for a day, where and when would you choose to go, and what would be the first thing to do?

Niki: I would land myself on the 50’s era at Hollywood. Meet James Dean, Marilyn, and dance rock n roll with Elvis all night long!

Posh Provocative: If you were suddenly granted the ability to fly like a bird, what excuse would you give for being late at a Posh Provocative gala?

Niki: haha I’ve been grooming my wings for your party.

“Red Lipstick is my dominant fetish. Everything starts from the lips.
This is where the taste is, this is where the food is, this is where love is.”

Secret identities and disguise

Posh Provocative: Picture yourself as a detective solving a mystery. What would be your signature detective catchphrase when you crack the case?

Niki: I knew it from the beginning… After all, I’m the only mystery.

Posh Provocative: How do you conceal your identity during nights of investigation?

Niki: I would use my sunglasses, wigs and masks.

Posh Provocative: What’s the sound as you approach the crime scene?

Niki: The sound of Louboutin Black Stiletto high heels!

Posh Provocative: If you were trapped on a deserted island and could only bring three items with you, what would they be?

Niki: I wouldn’t care about surviving; I would care about living it! So, camera, diving mask, drinks!

Posh Provocative: Which wild animal would you take as a pet if it didn’t bite?

Niki: The blackest Jaguar.

Posh Provocative: You have the power to read people’s minds, but it’s limited to only three. Who would they be?

Niki: Yamamoto Yohji, Madonna, Tim Burton.

Posh Provocative: Describe designing clothes in one word

Niki: Orgasm!
